CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 133
Leader: How very good and pleasant it is,
People: When kindred live together in unity.
Leader: It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard -
People: On the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes.
Leader: It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountain of Zion.
All: For there the Lord ordained his blessing – Life forevermore!
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Creator God, you have blessed us with green lands and rich oceans. You make your presence known to us in every blade of grass that grows and every drop of rain that falls from the sky. The wonder of your works is all around us. Help us to open up to the presence of your Spirit, and to revel in your mighty blessings. In the holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
HYMN OF PRAISE “Come, We That Love the Lord”
Come, we that love the Lord, and let our joys be known,
Join in a song with sweet accord, and thus surround the throne.
Let those refuse to sing who never knew our God;
But children of the heavenly King may speak their joys abroad.
The hill of Zion yields a thousand sacred sweets
Before we reach the heavenly fields, or walk the golden streets.
Then let our songs abound, and every tear be dry;
We're marching through Emmanuel's ground to fairer worlds on high.
PASSING OF THE PEACE
PRAYER FOR GRACE
All: Gracious God of the heavens and earth, we ask your forgiveness this morning. We confess that we have failed to earn the trust you have given us. You created a paradise and give us the promise of heaven. Yet we scorn your Word and follow our own desires. Lord, for the many ways we have not been a delight to you, we are sorry. We humbly ask your help change our ways, to honor your name, and to live in faithful obedience to your Word. We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (1 John 4:15-16)
All: “God abides in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God. So we have known and believe the love God has for us. God is love. And those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
CALL TO FAITHFUL LIVING (Matthew 7:12)
“In everything, do to others what you would have them to do you, for this sums up the law and the prophets.”
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me; Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “In Heaven Above” (verses 1, 3, & 4)
In heaven above, in heaven above, where God our Father dwells,
How boundless there the blessedness – no tongue its greatness tells!
There face to face, and full and free, the ever-living God we see,
Our God, the Lord of hosts!
In heaven above, in heaven above, no tears of pain are shed;
For nothing there can fade or die, life's fullness round is spread;
And, like an ocean, joy o'erflows, and with immortal mercy glows
Our God, the Lord of hosts!
In heaven above, in heaven above, God has a joy prepared,
Which mortal ear has never heard, nor mortal vision shared,
Which never entered mortal thought, in mortal dreams was never sought,
O God, the Lord of hosts!
SCRIPTURE READINGS – John 14:1-7
Revelation 22:1-5, 12-21
THE MORNING MESSAGE – “Hard Words: Heaven”
*OFFERTORY PRAYER AND DOXOLOGY
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father, almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints, The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
JOYS & CONCERNS – MORNING PRAYER – THE LORD'S PRAYER
(Lord’s Prayer – “…sins / …those who sin against us…”)
*CLOSING HYMN “Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken”
(verses 1, 2, & 4)
Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God;
He whose word cannot be broken formed thee for his own abode.
On the Rock of Ages founded, what can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded, thou mayst smile at all thy foes.
See the streams of living waters, springing from eternal love,
Well supply thy sons and daughters, and all fear of want remove:
Who can faint while such a river ever flows their thirst to assuage?
Grace which, like the Lord, the giver, never fails from age to age.
Savior, since of Zion's city I through grace a member am,
Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in thy name;
Fading is the world's best pleasure, all its boasted pomp and show;
Solid joys and lasting treasure none but Zion's children know.
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
*CHORAL POSTLUDE: "Lord, Dismiss Us with your Blessing"
(hummed – not sung)
Lord, dismiss us with your blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace;
O direct us and protect us, traveling through this wilderness.
