CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 104:24-35)
Leader: How many are your works, O Lord! In wisdom you made them all;
People: The earth is full of your creatures.
Leader: All creatures look to you, O Lord;
People: To give them their food at the proper time.
Leader: When you give it to them,
People: They gather it up.
Leader: When you open your hand,
People: They are satisfied with good things.
Leader: When you send your Spirit,
People: They are created, and you renew the face of the earth.
Leader: Praise the Lord, O my soul!
All: Praise the Lord!
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Holy God, you fill the earth with your Spirit. You move through us like wind through the reeds. You are always with us. Help us to know you are with us, today and always. And draw us into the warmth of your love. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “Come, Thou Almighty King”
Come, thou Almighty King;
Help us thy name to sing;
Help us to praise:
Father all glorious, O'er all victorious,
Come and reign over us, Ancient of Days.
Come, thou Incarnate Word,
Gird on thy mighty sword,
Our prayer attend:
Come, and thy people bless, and give thy word success:
Spirit of holiness, on us descend.
Come, Holy Comforter,
Thy sacred witness bear
In this glad hour:
Thou who almighty art, now rule in every heart,
And ne'er from us depart, Spirit of power.
To thee, great One in Three,
Eternal praises be
Hence, evermore!
Thy sovereign majesty may we in glory see,
And to eternity love and adore!
PASSING OF THE PEACE
PRAYER FOR GRACE
All: Gracious God, hear our prayer. You know that we do not always live as we should. We do not always show our love for you or for each other. For those times when we fail to love, we are sorry. Fill our hearts with your grace, and renew us by your Holy Spirit. Through Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (Romans 8:38-39)
All: “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
CALL TO FAITHFUL LIVING (1 John 3:10-11)
“This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.”
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “Open My Eyes, That I May See”
Open my eyes, that I may see, glimpses of truth thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for thee, ready my God, thy will to see;
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my ears, that I may hear voices of truth thou sendest clear,
And while the wave-notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for thee, ready my God, thy will to see;
Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my mouth, and let me bear glady the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart, and let me prepare love with thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for thee, ready my God, thy will to see;
Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!
SCRIPTURE READINGS – Acts 2:1-21
THE MORNING MESSAGE – “A Public Display of Affection“
*OFFERTORY PRAYER AND DOXOLOGY
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father, almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints, The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
JOYS & CONCERNS – MORNING PRAYER – THE LORD'S PRAYER
(Lord’s Prayer – “…sins / …those who sin against us…”)
*CLOSING HYMN “The Gift of Love”
Though I may speak with bravest fire,
And have the gift to all inspire,
And have not love: my words are vain;
As sounding brass, and hopeless gain.
Though I may give all I possess
And striving so my love profess,
But not be given by love within,
The profit soon turns strangely thin.
Come, Spirit, come, our hearts control,
Our spirits long to be made whole.
Let inward love guide every deed;
By this we worship, and are freed
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
*CHORAL POSTLUDE: "Lord, Dismiss Us with your Blessing"
(hummed – not sung)
Lord, dismiss us with your blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace;
O direct us and protect us, traveling through this wilderness.
