CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 85:8-13)
Leader: Let us hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people;
People: To his faithful, and to those who turn to him in their hearts.
Leader: Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him,
People: That his glory may dwell in our land.
Leader: Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet;
People: Righteousness and peace will kiss each other.
Leader: Faithfulness will spring up from the ground,
People: And righteousness will look down from the sky.
Leader: The Lord will give what is good;
People: And our land will yield its increase.
Leader: Righteousness will go before him,
All: And it will make a path for his steps. Praise be to God!
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Most righteous and loving God, we pray to you this morning. We pray for your blessings in our worship of you. We pray for your peace in our lives and in our world. We pray that your holy presence may be felt and glorified by all who pray in your name. We ask these blessings through your only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” (verses 1 & 4)
(hummed – not sung)
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we render; O help us to see
‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(please stand, but remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: God of all grace and mercy, hear our prayer. By all rights, we should be condemned. The weight of our sin cannot be lifted. By the measure of the law we should be cast down and forgotten. Yet we confess our faith in your Word, that we are not forgotten. That by your loving mercy we are remembered to you. Help us to remember our own faith in you, that we live by your grace. We pray in repentance and gratitude in the name of your holy Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817 – to be hummed, not sung) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (2 Corinthians 5:17-18)
All: “If anyone is in Christ the new creation has come! The old has gone – the new is here! All this is from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father (hummed – not sung)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (Matthew 7:12)
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. For this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1 (hummed – not sung) Hymn #297
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “I Am Not Skilled to Understand” (verses 1, 2, & 5)
I am not skilled to understand what God has willed, what God has planned,
I only know at his right hand stands one who is my Savior.
I take him at his word and deed: “Christ died to save me,” this I read,
And in my heart I find a need of him to be my Savior.
Yes, living, dying, let me bring my strength, my comfort from the spring:
That he who lives to be my King once died to be my Savior.
SCRIPTURE READINGS – Habakkuk 1:1-7, 2:4-5, 3:16-19
THE MORNING MESSAGE - “Looking for Answers“
*OFFERTORY PRAYER AND DOXOLOGY
*APOSTLES CREED
JOYS & CONCERNS – MORNING PRAYER – THE LORD'S PRAYER
*CLOSING HYMN “Trust and Obey” (verses 1 & 3)
(hummed – not sung)
When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word,
What a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will, he abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey,
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay,
For the favor he shows and the joy he bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
*CHORAL POSTLUDE: "Lord, Dismiss Us with your Blessing"
(hummed – not sung)
Lord, dismiss us with your blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace;
O direct us and protect us, traveling through this wilderness.
