PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Holy Lord, today we remember our baptisms in your name. We gather to offer you our gifts and our praises, and to ask for your blessings. In our chaotic world, we seek your peace. In our lives which need healing, we seek your comfort. Be with us and awaken us to your Spirit. We pray this in the name of our only salvation in this life and the next, Jesus Christ. Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “We Come, O Christ, to You” (verses 1, 4 & 5)
(hummed – not sung)
We come, O Christ, to you, true Son of God and man;
By whom all things consist, in whom all life began:
In you alone
We live and move and have our being in your love.
You only are true Life, to know you is to live
The more abundant life that earth can never give.
O risen Lord!
We live in you: in us each day your life renew!
We worship you, Lord Christ, our Savior and our King;
To you our youth and strength adoringly we bring:
So fill our hearts
That all may view your life in us, and turn to you!
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(Please remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: God of Grace, have mercy on us. We shout over each other when we should listen. We are complacent when we should be advocates for your kingdom. Help us to see our own complicity in the sin of the world. Help us to turn away from that sin, and make the spark of your love burn brightly in each of us. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817 – to be hummed, not sung) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (Philippians 4:6-7)
All: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father (hummed – not sung)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (Proverbs 3:5-7)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes, but fear the Lord and shun evil.
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1 (hummed – not sung) Hymn #297
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “Come, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove”
Hummed- not sung
Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, with all thy quickening powers;
Kindle a flame of sacred love in these cold hearts of ours.
O raise our thoughts of things below, from vanities and toys,
Then shall we with fresh courage go to reach eternal joys.
Awake our souls to joyful songs; let pure devotion rise,
Till praise employs our thankful tongues, and doubt forever dies.
Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, with all thy quickening powers;
Come, shed abroad a Savior’s love, and that shall kindle ours.
SCRIPTURE READINGS – Mark 1:4-11
Acts 19:1-7
THE MORNING MESSAGE - “Chapter Two“
*OFFERTORY PRAYER AND DOXOLOGY
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father, almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
JOYS & CONCERNS – MORNING PRAYER – THE LORD'S PRAYER
(Lord’s Prayer – “…sins / …those who sin against us…”)
*CLOSING HYMN “I Love You, Lord, My Strength, My Rock” (verses 1, 2, 4)
(hummed – not sung)
I love you, Lord, my strength, my rock, my fortress, and my aid.
My refuge and salvation’s hope, to you I love have prayed.
Though cords and snares encompassed me, confronting me with death,
In my distress I called to you, my life and source of breath.
In your own courts you heard my plea, my crying reached your ear.
The mountains shook, foundations reeled, your anger strikes such fear.
You came to me on wings of wind, with storm and lightning’s power.
You saved me from my enemies, you give me strength each hour.
For who is God, except the Lord, my rock, my strength, my stay.
Salvation’s shield you give to me, you widen victory’s way.
Blest be your name, O Living God, the victory you have won.
Your name I will proclaim to all, O saving Sovereign One.
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
*CHORAL POSTLUDE: "Lord, Dismiss Us with your Blessing"
(hummed – not sung)
Lord, dismiss us with your blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace;
O direct us and protect us, traveling through this wilderness.
