CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 119:105-112)
Leader: Your word is a lamp to my feet,
People: And a light to my path.
Leader: I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
People: To observe your righteous ordinances.
Leader: I am severely afflicted;
People: Give me life, O Lord, according to your word.
Leader: Accept my offerings of praise, O Lord,
People: And teach me your ordinances.
Leader: Your decrees are my heritage forever;
All: They are the joy of my heart.
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Holy Lord of truth and light, we pray to you. You call us together in your faith, and you bind us to you in love. In all your dealings with us you show us your grace. You guide us to what is good and right and true, never playing tricks or trying to deceive. We have not earned your blessings, yet you bless us anyway. For your endless love and mercy, we worship and bless your holy name! Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “Holy God, We Praise Your Name” (verses 1, 2, & 4) Hymn #3
(hummed – not sung)
Holy God, we praise your name; Lord of all, we bow before you;
All on earth your scepter claim, all in heaven above adore you;
Infinite your vast doman, everlasting is your reign.
Hark! The loud celestial hymn angel choirs above are raising;
Cherubim and seraphim in unceasing chorus praising,
Fill the heavens with sweet accord: Holy, holy, holy Lord.
Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit, Three we name you;
While in essence only one, undivided God we claim you,
Then, adoring, bend the knee, and confess the mystery.
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(please stand, but remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: Holy Lord of peace and justice, hear our prayer. You have revealed your own divine self to us, but we still seek our own truths. You ask for our devotion, yet our actions are self-centered. You treat us with love and honesty, and we respond by deceiving ourselves. For all of the ways we ignore your will and defy your trust, we are sorry. Open our hearts to receive your love, and help us to be faithful to you, as you are faithful to us. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817 – to be hummed, not sung) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (Romans 10:12-13)
All: “There is no difference between Jew and Gentile – the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him. For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father Hymn #805 (hummed – not sung)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
