CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 5)
Leader: In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
People: In the morning I plead my case to you, and you take heed.
Leader: For you are not a God who delights in wickedness,
People: Evil is not welcome with you.
Leader: But by your great love I come into your house,
People: In reverence I bow down to your holy temple.
Leader: Let all who take refuge in you be glad and sing in joy,
People: Let those who love your name rejoice!
Leader: Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous,
All: And surround them with your favor like a shield.
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Holy God, we praise and bless your glorious name, that we are able to worship you this morning. We ask for the blessing of your Holy Spirit, to unite our whole church in faith. Whether we are gathered in the church, praying to you from our homes, or coming to you from places far flung, we all seek to be one in you. We pray for your presence in our lives to overflow within us and awaken is to you. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “Jesus, Name Above All Names” (twice) Hymn #106

Jesus, name above all names, Beautiful Savior, Glorious Lord,
Emmanuel, God is with us, Blessed Redeemer, Living Word.
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(please stand, but remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: God of grace and mercy, hear our prayer. We pray for those times we have spoken words of anger instead of peace. We pray for the ways we favor arrogance over humility. We confess that we are quick to talk and slow to listen. Keep us humble before you, and create new and loving hearts within us. We pray this for the sake of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
(Responsive Hymn #817) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (1 John 4:15-16)
All: “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, then God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father Hymn #805 (hummed – not sung)
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (Matthew 22:37-40)
“Jesus replied, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments.’”
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1 (hummed – not sung)
Hymn #297
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “The Solid Rock” (verses 1 & 4) Hymn #517
My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness,
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.
When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found,
Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper he, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing;
For still our ancient foe,
Doth seek to work us woe,
His craft and power are great,
And armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours thro’ him who with us sideth;
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also,
The body they may kill,
God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
*CHORAL POSTLUDE: "Lord, Dismiss Us with your Blessing" Hymn #834
(hummed – not sung)
