CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 90)
Pastor: Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations;
People: Before the mountains were born; from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Pastor: Lord we pray that you will teach us to have hearts of wisdom
People: And that you will have compassion on your servants.
Pastor: Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
People: That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
Pastor: Make us glad for as many days and years as we have seen trouble.
People: May your deeds be shown to your servants; may your splendor be shown to your children.
Pastor: May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us.
All: Yes, Lord. Show us your favor and establish the work of our hands for us.
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Holy God, you gave us lips to give voice to your praises, feet to walk in your ways, and hands to do your works. You have filled us with love for you, and we praise and serve you with joy in our hearts. Bless us, we pray, as we worship you, praise you, and glorify your holy name. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “Give to Our God Immortal Praise” (verses 1, 3 & 5)
(hummed – not sung)
Give to our God immortal praise; Mercy and truth are all his ways:
Wonders of grace to God belong; Repeat his mercies in your song.
He fills the sun with morning light; He bids the moon direct the night:
His mercies ever shall endure, When suns and moons shall shine no more.
Through this vast world he guides our feet, And leads us to his heavenly seat:
His mercies ever shall endure, When this our world shall be no more.
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(Please remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: Holy Lord of redemption and salvation, we come to you now in confession. Confession that we have not held true to the laws you gave us. Confession that we answer your call, not when we are needed, but when it is convenient. Confession that we stay idle when we should tend to your work. For our shortcomings, for our failures to love you, for our failures to love our neighbors, we are truly sorry. We humbly repent and ask your forgiveness. Rekindle our passions for you, and fill our hearts with love. For the sake of your son, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817 – to be hummed, not sung) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (Hebrews 10:16-18)
All: “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time,” says the Lord. “I will put my laws in their hearts and I will write them on their minds.” Then he adds, “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more. And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father (hummed – not sung)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (1 John 4:7-8)
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1 (hummed – not sung) Hymn #297
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “As Sons of the Day and Daughters of Light”
Hummed- not sung; (verses 1, 3 & 4)
As sons of the day and daughters of light,
No longer we sleep like creatures of night,
For Jesus has died that with him we may live;
By all he has given we learn how to give.
Be constant in prayer, at all times rejoice,
In all things give thanks – let God hear your voice!
Alive to the Spirit, alert to the word,
Test all things, and hold to what pleases the Lord.
May God who first called, gave peace and made whole,
Preserve us from fault in body and soul;
Our Lord Jesus Christ keep us firm in his grace
Until at his coming we meet face to face.
SCRIPTURE READINGS – 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
THE MORNING MESSAGE - “Post Tenebras Lux“
*OFFERTORY PRAYER AND DOXOLOGY
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father, almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

Savior of all people, shepherd of one fold.
Light of revelation to the Gentiles shown,
Light of Israel’s glory to the world made known.
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
