Leader: The Lord reigns; let the nations tremble!
People: He sits enthroned between the angels – let the earth shake!
Leader: Great is the Lord in Zion, exalted in all the nations!
People: Let them praise your great and awesome name!
Leader: Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain;
All: For the Lord our God is holy!
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Lord God, we look for you on the highest mountains and in the deepest valleys. We know you are with us, no matter where we are. Open our eyes to see you, our ears to hear you, our hearts to worship you. Be with us and bless us as we come together as your people. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “Ye Servants of God, Your Master” (verses 1 )
(hummed – not sung)
Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim,
And publish abroad his wonderful name;
The name all victorious of Jesus extol,
His kingdom is glorious, he rules over all.
Then let us adore and give him his right,
All glory and power, all wisdom and might:
All honor and blessing, with angels above,
And thanks never ceasing, and infinite love.
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(Please remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: God of mercy, hear our prayer. We have ignored your Word, turned away from your path, and put our faith in earthly places. For the many ways we have widened the separation between us and you, we are sorry. Forgive us, and renew righteous hearts in each of us. Make us to live more fully in your loving embrace. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817 – to be hummed, not sung) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (John 6:51)
All: [Jesus said to them], “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father (hummed – not sung)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (Hebrews 12:14)
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy. Without holiness, no one will see the Lord.
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1 (hummed – not sung) Hymn #297
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “Take Time to Be Holy” (verses 1 & 4)
Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in him always, and feed on his Word.
Make friends of God’s children; help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing, his blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath his control;
Thus led by his Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.
SCRIPTURE READINGS – Matthew 22:15-22
THE MORNING MESSAGE - “Laying the Trap“
*OFFERTORY PRAYER AND DOXOLOGY
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father, almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
JOYS & CONCERNS – MORNING PRAYER – THE LORD'S PRAYER
*CLOSING HYMN “Blest Be the Tie That Binds”
(hummed – not sung)
Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love,
The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.
Before our Father’s throne we pour our ardent prayers,
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares.
We share each other’s woes, each other’s burdens bear,
And often for each other flows the sympathizing tear.
When we are called to part, it gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again.
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
*CHORAL POSTLUDE: "Lord, Dismiss Us with your Blessing"
(hummed – not sung)
Lord, dismiss us with your blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace;
O direct us and protect us, traveling through this wilderness.
