CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 41)
Leader: Happy are those who have regard for the weak;
People: The Lord delivers them in times of trial.
Leader: The Lord protects and preserves them,
People: Counting them among the blessed in the land.
Leader: He does not give them over to the desires of their foes,
People: But He sustains them on their sickbeds and restores them from illness.
Leader: Have mercy on me, O Lord,
People: And set me in your presence forever.
Leader: Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
All: From everlasting to everlasting! Amen and amen!
OPENING PRAYER AND CONFESSION
All: God of Grace and Mercy, hear our prayer. We pray that your loving presence in the world may be revealed to your whole creation. Show your eternal kindness to all people. In these troubling times when we are prone to disease, fear, and finger-pointing, lead us instead to health, courage, and compassion. We pray for your healing in a broken world. Lead all of your creation out of this darkness and into your light. We pray this in the name of our only Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (Isaiah 41:10)
All: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (Proverbs 3:5-8)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SCRIPTURE READINGS – Psalm 23
Matthew 9:27-38
THE MORNING MESSAGE – “Healing and Compassion”
APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father, almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
Almighty God,
Hear us in our time of distress.
We pray for the sick and the dying, that your healing and your comfort may be with them.
We pray for the caregivers, that you may shield and strengthen them against all harm.
We pray for the lonely, that they may know your love and the love of their neighbors.
We pray for ourselves, that you may preserve us by your providence,
and make us blessings to our neighbors, and beacons of your radiant light in the darkest night.
Make your love burn brightly in all your people, as we look forward to the day when we may once again gather together in joy under your holy name.
We pray these things in the name of our Holy Shepherd, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
