FAITH COMMUNITY CHURCH, HAZLET NJ
GRIEF SUPPORT – Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you and what do you offer?
Our Grief Support Group is facilitated by our Pastor, the Rev. David Moore. Rev. Moore earned his Masters of Divinity at the New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 2016, with relevant coursework in Pastoral Care, Counseling, Trauma, and Medical Ethics.
Our goal is to provide a welcoming, supportive space for people suffering through grief and loss. Most evenings, this takes the form of simple group discussions. Often there will be a theme for the evening (i.e. - grieving through the first year; handling holidays; changing family dynamics), but discussion topics are flexible based on the needs of the attendees.
You're a church. Do I have to be religious to participate?
No. People of all faiths or no faith are welcome to participate. This is intended to be a space for people to share their experiences, no matter where they're coming from.
Do I have to register beforehand?
There is no pre-registration required. However, we do encourage people to sign up beforehand using the confidential Inquiry form above, just to aid the Pastor in preparing the session.
Is there a fee?
No. Grief Support is a non-proselytizing ministry of the Faith Community Church and is supported by the membership of the church, not the group attendees.
What sort of grief do you talk about?
This is primarily a bereavement group, focusing on coping and support following the death of a loved one.
Can children attend?
Yes. Although the grief group is not currently tailored to children, they are certainly welcome to come. If it becomes clear that there is a need for a separate group focused on childrens' grief, the ministry may expand to include that. But as of now, children are welcome to attend the Wednesday evening sessions.
Are you available for one-on-one counseling?
Pastor Moore is available for limited one-on-one grief counseling. If your individual needs are greater than what the group can provide, or require more than a few sessions of one-on-one counseling, recommendations for other counseling providers can be given.
Where do you meet?
At the Faith Community Church, 215 Middle Road, Hazlet. We usually meet in the narthex (right as you walk in the front door – look for the sign), or on hot evenings, we'll meet in the sanctuary or pastor's study (both of which are air conditioned).
When do you meet?
Grief support is offered Wednesday evenings at 7pm from September through January, and April through June.
