CALL TO WORSHIP (Adapted from Psalm 42)
Leader: As a deer longs for flowing streams,
People: So my soul longs for you, O God.
Leader: My soul thirsts for God – for the living God.
People: When shall I come and behold the face of God?
Leader: Deep calls to deep at the thunder of your cataracts;
People: All your waves and your billows have gone over me.
Leader: By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
People: And at night his song is with me.
Leader: O my soul, why are you disquieted within me? But hope in God -
All: For I again shall praise him – my help and my God.
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Creator God, you have blessed us with green lands and rich oceans. You make your presence known to us in every blade of grass that grows and every drop of rain that falls from the sky. The wonder of your works is all around us. Help us to open up to the presence of your Spirit, and to revel in your mighty blessings. In the holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
HYMN OF PRAISE “Let All Things Now Living” Hymn #53
PASSING OF THE PEACE
PRAYER FOR GRACE
All: Gracious God of all creation, we pray in confession to you. We confess that we have failed to earn the trust you have given us. You made a paradise for us and breathed life into the world. Yet we abuse what you have made for our own purposes. You have given us abundance, yet we hoard more than we can use. Lord, for the many ways we have not been a delight to you, we are sorry. We humbly ask your help to do better; to honor your call to love; and to live more generously. We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (Romans 14:17-18a)
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God.
