CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 62:5-8)
Leader: For God alone our souls wait in silence -
People: For our hope is from him.
Leader: He alone is our rock and our salvation, our fortress -
People: We shall not be shaken.
Leader: On God rests our deliverance and our honor -
People: Our mighty rock – our refuge is in God.
Leader: Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts before him -
All: For God is a sanctuary for us.
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: God of grace, you have given us minds to know you, hearts to love you, and voices to shout your praise. Fill us with your Spirit, that we may celebrate your glory, and worship you in spirit and in truth. We pray this through Jesus Christ, our Lord Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “We Gather Together” (hummed – not sung)
We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens his will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing,
Sing praises to his name: he forgets not his own.
Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, wast at our side, all glory be thine!
We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,
And pray that thou still our defender wilt be;
Let thy congregation escape tribulation:
Thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(Please remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: God, our Creator, we confess that we are broken and sinful. You call on us to change our lives, but we do not heed your warning. You give us good news to share, but we stay stubborn and silent. God of grace, forgive us. Help us to repent and to follow you. Help us to bear witness to the good news that your holy realm is near. In your holy name we pray, Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817 – to be hummed, not sung) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (Romans 10:11b-13)
All: “’Anyone who believes in [Jesus] will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile – the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him. For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father (hummed – not sung)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (Matthew 7:12)
“In everything you do, do to others what you would have them to do you. This sums up all the law and the prophets.”
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1 (hummed – not sung) Hymn #297
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “I Know Not Where the Road Will Lead”
(Hummed- not sung)
I know not where the road will lead I follow day by day,
Or where it ends: I only know I walk the King’s highway.
I know not if the way is long, and no one else can say;
But rough or smooth, up hill or down, I walk the King’s highway.
And some I love have reached the end, but some with me may stay,
Their faith and hope still guiding me; I walk the King’s highway.
The way is truth, the way is love, for light and strength I pray,
And through the years of life to God I walk the King’s highway.
The countless hosts lead on before, I must not fear or stray;
With them, the pilgrims of the faith, I walk the King’s highway.
Through light and dark the road leads on till dawns the endless day,
When I shall know why in this life I walk the King’s highway.
SCRIPTURE READINGS – Mark 1:14-20
THE MORNING MESSAGE - “Breaking Points“
*OFFERTORY PRAYER AND DOXOLOGY
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
INSTALLATION OF ELDERS & DEACONS
I believe in God the Father, almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
*CLOSING HYMN “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”
(hummed – not sung)
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty – hold me with thy powerful hand:
Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more
(want no more)
Feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow;
Let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through:
Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield
(strength and shield)
Be thou still my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of death, and hell’s destruction, land me safe on Canaan’s side:
Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to thee,
(give to thee)
I will ever give to thee.
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
*CHORAL POSTLUDE: "Lord, Dismiss Us with your Blessing"
(hummed – not sung)
Lord, dismiss us with your blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace;
O direct us and protect us, traveling through this wilderness.
