PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Holy God, we look to your presence. You are with us every moment of every day, and through the darkest nights. For your gifts of creation, for the love you give us, for the light of the world, we give you thanks. We praise and bless your holy name. Be with us in our worship this morning, and fill us with your spirit. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing” (verses 1, 3, & 5) Hymn #130
(hummed – not sung)
O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace.
He breaks the power of canceled sin, he sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean, his blood availed for me.
My gracious master and my God, assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad the honors of thy name.
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(please stand, but remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: Holy Lord, we confess that we are not ready to meet you. You offer us a place in your house, yet we find no room for you in our lives. You invite us into your eternal kingdom, yet we fail to welcome others. God of grace, we ask your forgiveness. Let your word of life be with us, that we may truly believe and live in your faith. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817 – to be hummed, not sung) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (John 16:33)
All: [Jesus said], “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! For I have overcome the world.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father Hymn #805 (hummed – not sung)
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (1 John 3:10-11)
“This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. For this is the message we have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.”
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1 (hummed – not sung) Hymn #297
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “O Come to Me, the Master Said” (verses 1 & 3) Hymn #442
O come to me, the Master said, my Father knows your need;
And I shall be, the Master said, your bread of life indeed.
By faith in him we live and grow and share the broken bread,
And all his love and goodness know, for so the Master said.
Believe in me, the Master said, for I have called you friends
And yours shall be, the Master said, the life that never ends.
And so, with sin and sorrow past, when death itself is dead,
The Lord shall raise us up at last, for so the Master said.

I am his child, and I am not afraid.
So greatly pardoned, I’ll forgive another;
The law of love I gladly will obey.
