CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 131)
Pastor: My heart is not proud, Lord.
People: My eyes are not haughty.
Pastor: I do not concern myself with great matters,
People: Or things too wonderful for me.
Pastor: But I have calmed and quieted myself; I am like a weaned child with its mother;
People: Like a weaned child, I am content.
Pastor: Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
All: Now and forevermore.
PRAYER OF PRESENCE
All: Holy Lord, we approach you this morning to offer you our thanks and our praise. You have blessed us mightily, and with many gifts. Help us to use these gifts to their fullest, that we may honor and glorify you through our efforts. Be present with us in our worship and bless us to know your joy, your peace, and your love. In the holy name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
* HYMN OF PRAISE “Crown Him With Many Crowns” (verses 1, 2, & 4)
(hummed – not sung)
Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon the throne;
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own;
Awake my soul, and sing of him who died for thee,
And hail him as thy matchless king through all eternity.
Crown him the lord of life, who triumphed o’er the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save;
His glories now we sing who died and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.
Crown him the Lord of years, the potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For thou hast died for me;
Thy praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity.
PASSING OF THE PEACE
(Please remain in place, and greet your nearest neighbors with a wave and a blessing of peace)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: Most gracious God, you created us with hearts to love and hands to serve. You have blessed us with many talents and great energy. Yet we often squander these gifts, choosing to love and serve only ourselves. Help us to be better stewards of your blessings. Kindle the love you have given us for you and for all your Creation. Accept our repentance and forgive us, Lord. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
(Responsive Hymn #817 – to be hummed, not sung) - Hear our prayer O Lord. Hear our prayer O Lord. Incline thine ear to us, and grant us Thy peace. Amen.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE (Romans 8:38-39)
All: “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all Creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
*Gloria Patri: Glory be to The Father (hummed – not sung)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen, Amen.
SUMMARY OF THE LAW (Matthew 22:37-40)
Jesus replied, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments.”
HYMN FOR ILLUMINATION (seated) “Spirit of the Living God” Verse 1 (hummed – not sung) Hymn #297
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Break me, melt me, mold me, fill me;
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SERMON HYMN “Let Your Heart Be Broken”
Hummed- not sung; (verses 1, 3 & 4)
Let your heart be broken for a world in need –
Feed the mouths that hunger, soothe the wounds that bleed;
Give the cup of water and the loaf of bread –
Be the hands of Jesus, serving in his stead.
Blest to be a blessing, privileged to care,
Challenged by the need apparent everywhere,
Where the world is wanting fill the vacant place,
Be the means through which the Lord reveals his grace.
Add to your believing deeds that prove it true –
Knowing Christ as Savior, make him Master too;
Follow in his footsteps, go where he has trod,
In the world’s great trouble risk yourself for God.
SCRIPTURE READINGS – Matthew 25:31-46
THE MORNING MESSAGE - “Whom Do You Serve?“
*OFFERTORY PRAYER AND DOXOLOGY
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father, almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried.
The third day he rose from the dead
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.
JOYS & CONCERNS – MORNING PRAYER – THE LORD'S PRAYER
(Lord’s Prayer – “…sins / …those who sin against us…”)
*CLOSING HYMN “The Kingdom of God is Justice and Joy”
(hummed – not sung)
The kingdom of God is justice and joy;
For Jesus restores what sin would destroy,
God’s power and glory in Jesus we know,
And here and hereafter the kingdom shall grow.
The kingdom of God is mercy and grace;
The captives are freed, the sinners find place.
The outcasts are welcomed God’s banquet to share,
And hope is awakened in place of despair.
The kingdom of God is challenge and choice;
Believe the good news, repent and rejoice!
His love for us sinners brought Christ to the cross,
Our crisis of judgment for gain or for loss.
God’s kingdom is come, the gift and the goal;
In Jesus begun, in heaven made whole.
The heirs of the kingdom shall answer his call,
And all things cry “Glory!” to God All-in-all.
*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION
*CHORAL POSTLUDE: "Lord, Dismiss Us with your Blessing"
(hummed – not sung)
Lord, dismiss us with your blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, your love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace;
O direct us and protect us, traveling through this wilderness.
